Intelligent Technology Deployment using D3 vSOC

After exploring Return on Investment (ROI) through reduced staffing requirements in Part 1 and reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through optimization in Part 2, this last post in my three part cost savings series will describe how to use D3’s virtual Security Operations Center (vSOC) solution to save money through intelligent deployment of other technologies.
Many security technology solutions are designed with the goal to mitigate threats and thus reduce incident volume and cost for their customers. Security countermeasures such as access control systems, video surveillance systems, and perimeter protection systems are all examples. The effectiveness of these systems can be measured using D3’s vSOC solution.
D3 vSOC utilizes an open-architecture web services API to allow for integration with other systems such as those mentioned above. These systems can be integrated so that alarm data populates within vSOC incident reports in two ways:
1) Manually: A user can manually prompt the system to export alarm data to D3 vSOC.
2) Automatically: All alarms meeting certain criteria such as a specified priority or location can be automatically imported into vSOC.
By configuring this integration, organizations gain an understanding of the ratio of valid alarms requiring a response to invalid or nuisance alarms requiring no response. This information may be helpful in making future deployment decisions for systems to protect assets in similar locations or environments. By making more intelligent deployment decisions, organizations realize new cost savings and a greater efficiency that result in a quantifiable ROI for the D3 investment itself.
D3 has a separate methodology for quantifying ROI on security countermeasures. This is not limited to technology solutions. ROI can be quantified for any expenditure intended to mitigate a threat and reduce incident volume and cost.
